My Story:

Emily Melson serves Beacon Academy as an Upper Elementary teacher. She is originally from Richmond, VA before coming to Sweet Briar College where she graduated with a Master of Arts in teaching and has spent the past 3 years teaching for Amherst County Public Schools. She is passionate about giving students choices that allow them to fulfill their own self-determination including autonomy, relatedness, and competence in and outside the classroom while also making learning fun! In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two dogs (one who is adopted from South Korea) at their home or on nature trails around Lynchburg. She also enjoys gardening, riding horses, and baking sweets to share with others.
