Admissions

Beacon Academy places high value on the relationship created with each student and family.  Beacon Academy will ensure that each student, parent, and stakeholder have sufficient time to meet with the faculty and administration, ask questions, tour the facilities, and any additional considerations that are required for the student to become acclimated prior to his/her first day.

Students enrolled in Beacon Academy are referred by their local education agency or LEA.  Beacon Academy does not accept private placements. The student’s LEA will make the initial contact with the staff of Beacon Academy and provide a completed referral packet in order to determine appropriateness of the program for the student. The referral packet, provided by the LEA, requires: educational records, an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), eligibility minutes/reports, discipline record, report of a physical examination, and a current immunization record.

If the student's academic records are not provided during the application process, Beacon Academy, with written parental consent, shall make a request within five business days of enrollment to the student's last-attended school or the division superintendent or designee. If a local school division places a child with a disability in Beacon Academy, the local school division shall initiate and conduct an IEP meeting in accordance with the requirements set forth in the Regulations Governing Special Education Programs.

Upon review of the referral packet, Beacon Academy will make the decision to accept or reject the child's application for admission.  The school division and/or referral source will be notified in writing of the decision.  Beacon Academy Admissions Committee includes the Director of Education, Administrative Designee, Director of Programs, and Clinical Director.  When acceptance is appropriate, an orientation meeting will be scheduled to include completion of required admission paperwork.
Beacon Academy does not currently accept privately placed/ private pay students. This alleviates families and students of financial responsibility for tuition during their attendance. All student tuition funds are from placing school divisions and The Office of Children’s Services for the locality. More information can be found at https://www.csa.virginia.gov/ .   Beacon Academy maintains insurance to coverage of all operations.
